What is Bill C-92?

An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Children, Youth and Families. Also known as Bill C-92

This is a new federal law enabling First Nations to exercise jurisdiction for Child and Family Services which came into effect January 1, 2020

On June 3, 2020 Whitefish Lake First Nation #459 gave notice to Canada to claim jurisdiction over Child and Family Services and to create our own Laws honouring our ‘Nehiyaw” way of life.

We will reclaim decision making from federal (Canada) and provincial (Alberta) governments for matters impacting our families and children.

Our Laws will prevail regarding the safety, survival, and wellbeing of our children
